The Necessity of a Watchman

As I was reading in Ezekiel 33 this morning verse 6 jumped out and took hold of me. Before I get to that, I must say that this past week has been a week encumbered by emotions.

As my family and I continue to strive toward the prize of our calling we are met with resistance from friends, church members, and church leaders; however, our resolve is even more quickened.

A former pastor of many years ago used to say this, “if you don’t stand for something, then you’ll fall for anything.”

Apparently, taking a stand against the IFB church institution is troublesome. A spiritual nerve is dangling because of my teaching on divorce and remarriage as it relates to the pastorate. The best that I can surmise is that those troubled by my teaching on the subject are resisting their own disqualifying inadequacies.

So, those cast out into the spiritual darkness, by local churches and leaders wrought by their own disqualifying attributes, are many and require restoration. Thus, Galatians 6:1 Ministry is our burden.

I, with much respect, wonder if churches understand James 2:14-17, Galatians 6:1, 1 John 1:9. Many pastors, teachers, deacons, and evangelists love preaching the great truths of forgiveness and restoration while hearing a hearty, Amen! This gives them the opportunity for ‘pulpit’ reconciliation, forgiveness, and restoration. What about those the church has shunned with no hope of Ephesians 4:32 because their sin was on your list of untouchables.

It’s time for those with an alleged call of God on their lives to end their self-inflated view of their positions and allow those with faults to serve with those with faults. Don’t preach 2 Corinthians 5:17 unless you believe it! “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

To the point of my opening statement, a watchman is necessary. Ezekiel 33:6 “But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.”

There are hundreds of former church members, faithful workers, and those with a calling from God no longer serving in a local church. Unless the Lord changes my direction, I intend to hold the church accountable for its actions and cry out against the spiritual sword that is violently cutting against many who deserve restoration because of Christ. I see the sword and, with God’s help, the warning trumpet will sound!

Call With a Burden
