Asleep at the Wheel

Asleep at the Wheel – From a missionary in the middle east, and for security reasons I won’t share his name (Now in Heaven)

God’s people are hitting the snooze button on God’s alarm clock. In the days and weeks following the terrorist attacks, patriotism was at a high point, church buildings were filled with lost people looking for answers, and believers were awakened to the opportunities of the moment. Not only have we almost completely forgotten It is safe to say that many of those who profess to know the Lord has long since fallen back into slumber—we are sleeping. Alarm bells are ringing. Our world is shifting. The very foundations are trembling. All of creation is groaning for the return of Jesus. God is trying to stir His people, but we hit the snooze button. “Later…” We have swallowed one of the slipperiest lies of Satan.

This is our moment! Slumbering believers are not a new phenomenon. Paul dealt with the same problem only a few short years after Christ ascended back to His Father. Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, “Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame” (I Corinthians 15:34). We are slumbering while a world is hurtling towards the eternal fires of a Christless eternity. We must live awake! Awake believers must recognize their obligation, not to a lost world but to a holy God, to be obedient in these last days. We have sacrificed obedience on the altars of busyness; comfort and ease; ritualistic ministry; man’s approval; worldly pleasures. What will it take to awaken us? Will we continue to hit the snooze button on God’s alarms, or will we “Awake to righteousness?” May God help us!
